What Is A Yorkipoo? How Much Does A Yorkipoo Cost?

12 February, 2005 (11:27) | Family | By: Alexander Raiano III

One thing to keep in mind: All of my answers to these questions are based on my own experience. I am by no means an expert on Yorkipoos or dogs for that matter…

What Is A Yorkipoo?
A Yorkipoo is a mix between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Toy Poodle.

How Much Do Yorkipoos Cost?
It’s hard to say how much they cost however; my dogs cost me $350 each. As of late, I’ve seen them listed for as much as $1200! When my wife and I purchased our dogs, we did not know how popular they were. We found them in the local paper’s classified ads.

How Are Yorkipoos With Children?
Our dogs have been great with children. We have a couple of friends that have kids. Almost every time our dogs have seen kids, they have behaved well. My wife and I are expecting so, check back in the near future for more information on how well they do with kids :). Updated: Head on over to this post or this one for an update on how the pups are doing with our baby.

How Are Yorkipoos To House Break?
Both of my dogs had a rather easy time with house breaking. The male dog (Alfred) was a little tougher then our female dog (Elmira). I understand that this is normal. My wife and I live in upstate New York so it was somewhat tough to house break them in the winter. As you can imagine, both of my dogs don’t really like the cold weather. On a couple of occasions, Elmira has actually walked on her front legs in order to prevent her back legs from being in the cold snow :(.

Would You Recommend A Yorkipoo To Somebody?
My experience with my dogs has been nothing but wonderful. They are great companions. They do however; require a lot of attention so if you decide to get one you should expect to spend some decent time with them.

How Are Yorkipoos With Other Dogs?
My dogs are great with other dogs! Both my parents and my in-laws have a dog so my dogs spend a lot of time with them. It’s kind of fun to see them play with a dog that is a lot larger. Elmira is extremely submissive while Alfred enjoys barking and chasing the dogs.

Where Can I Find Pictures Of A Yorkipoo?
Strange you asked! I have a ton of pics of my dogs here.

Have Your Dogs Ever Been On TV?
Almost! We had an offer to be on CBS however; CBS wasn’t willing to pay for my wife to come along so I decided not to go. Some people say I missed my chance at fame :).

Clare,
To be perfectly honest, I don’t know of a breeder. The person that we got our dogs from is no longer in the area. Let me know if you do find a breeder. I’m sure that somebody else who visits this website would be interested in a breeder that you find.

Good luck,
Alex

Marla,
That’s great! I hope you enjoy your pup as much as my wife and I enjoy ours. Stop back when you get your dog and let us know how everything is going. Are you getting a yorkipoo or some other kind of mixed breed?

Hi. Love your site. I’m thinking of adopting a yorkiepoo and am checking back to see how your dogs did with your newborn. Congratulations by the way!
Here is the link to the dog I’m considering.

Cheryl,
Our dogs have been great with our son. I know that people say that small dogs are sometimes possessive of their owners however; our dogs have been wonderful. I wish you the best of luck with your yorkipoo if you decide to get one. Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Dear Raiano family,

Your website has been very helpful in our research for a yorkiepoo or a schnoodle. We have a 6 years old daughter who love dogs of any size or kind, and a 3+ son who has always been very timid with all animals (even kitty cats!) until this past year. He has no problem petting or interacting with smaller animals or baby animals, but is still hestitant with the bigger dogs or ones that continue to bark at him.

I have want to ask an actual owner of either yorkiepoo or schnoodle what they think of their dogs, and if they would recommend them with kids.

I know you have yorkiepoo, so would let me know how they do with smaller kids and some detail information on their behavior/habits? I would greatly appreciate your help! My husband & I want to get a dog for our kids, but we want to make sure we are choosing one that will be good with them.

By the way, do you know anyone that has a schnoodle that could also give us some insight on the same questions? Sorry for being so inquisitive. It’s almost like having another kid. I am a bit nerveous and want to make the right choice.

Thank you!!!!

My boxer of 12 years just passed away and I now have an 8 month old yorkipoo received from SOAR (rescue). He is a precious 7 lb. loving and good natured pet. He is clean, not a barker, hasn’t destroyed anything yet, will take effort to housebreak, is a companion dog. He loves his purse-like carrying case and so far has been grocery shopping, seen the Legends of Zoro and attended a church service, unnoticed. 11-26-05
